Mount Kilimanjaro Marangu Route Details

Day 1: Transfer from the Airport to the Hotel

Arrive at Kilimanjaro International Airport, transfer to accommodation in Arusha, Planet Lodge and get program briefing.

Day 2:  Registration at Marangu gate and trek to Mandara hut (9,000ft)

Breakfast, drive from your hotel to Marangu gate, we will spend about two hours for registration, payments of fees and final parking. Star climbing through dense semi- tropical to the first hut- Mandara hut (9,000ft). Dinner and overnight at Madara hut, B.L.D

Day 3: From Mandara hut (9,000ft) to Horombo hut (12,000ft)

Breakfast, ascend through the alpine meadow, and grassland and moorland to Horombo hut (12,000ft). Both Mawenzi and Kibo peaks can be viewed easily on the way. Dinner and overnight at Horombo hut. B.L.D

Day 4: Acclimatization day at Horombo

Today we spend the acclimatization day at Horombo by hiking to a nearby Mawenzi and the surrounding and come back the hut for lunch, Horombo, B.L.D

Day 5: From Horombo hut (12,000ft) to Kibo hut (15,000ft)

Breakfast, further ascending to Kibo hut (15,000ft). The landscape becomes very stony and eroded. Spectacular mountain vegetation like giant cactus, groundswell and lobelia appear on the way. Dinner and overnight stay at kibo hut, B.L.B

Day 6:Kibo hut  to Uhuru peak and back to Horombo hut

Wake up at midnight, and after a snack, proceed to the summit through Gilman point (18,640ft). It is about 5-6hours and 1-2hours from Kibo hut to Gilman point and from Gilman point to Uhuru peak (19,340ft) respectively. Thus reaching the peak in the early morning of the fifth day and start descending after picture taking on the top to Horombo hut for diner and overnight after a short break at kibo hut, B.L.D

Day 7: From Horombo hut to Marangu gate and through to the hotel

Breakfast, descend from Horombo hut to Marangu gate. The waiting car will take you to Planet Lodge. B.L

Day 8: Transfer to the Kilimanjaro Airport (JRO)

Transfer to the airport for your return flight, B

Arrival and departure Kilimanjaro Airport transfers. Also, fee bust shuttle transfer Nairobi-Arusha-Nairobi if flying to /from Nairobi

Accommodation in mountain huts or mountain tents with mattresses we use the highest quality expedition tents of Eureka and MountainHardware.

Meals as indicated (B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner)

All park fees, including mountain rescue fees, government taxes and all applicable fees and taxes.

Services of a professional leading guide who is medically trained, certified, licensed and English speaking.

Services of English –speaking assistant guide(s), a skilled cook, and enough numbers of porters for your luggage, food, and water, and a dining tent.

Dining tent on the trek.

Transport from your hotel to the mountain, and back to your hotel

Use of radios/phones to increase your safety.

Group average of 4-6 climbers, maximum of 10

Items of a person nature such as passport, visa, traveler insurance, medical evacuation insurance (a 50$value)

Tips to guides and porters

International Airfare (unless explicitly stated)

Medical Equipment which can be rented well in advance for the following costs:

$250/group for hyperbaric chamber, $210/group for an emergency Oxygen cylinder and $140/group for a stretcher.


Please not these prices include a porter to carry the equipment.
