Kilimanjaro Climbing via Umbwe RouteItinerary  Summary

Umbwe is steepest route up or down Kilimanjaro, thus useful for expert climbers. The route offers beautiful scenery and offer incredible view of Kibo, the Great Western Breach (a huge stone mass protruding from Kibo) and the Baranco.

 Trip Details

Day 1. Transfer to Arusha

Arrive at Kilimanjaro international Airport, transfer to accommodation in Arusha, Planet Lodge.

Day 2. trekking to Umbwe

Breakfast, leave for Umbwe route. We will pass through the banana and coffee plantations and Umbwe parish (4,600ft) on the way to Umbwe. Dinner and overnight at Bivouac I, (9,300ft) or Bivouac II , (12,600FT) , B.L.D.

Day 3. Shira plateau or to Lava Tower hut

From Baranco camp, we can go west to Shira plateau or to Lava Tower hut and the summit via the Great Western Breach and Arrow Glacier camp, B.L.D. alternatively, we can go eastwards to Barafu hut

Day 4. Summit via Kibo crater and on to Uhuru peak

Wake up at midnight for a last ascending moment to the summit via Kibo crater and on to Uhuru peak. Thereafter, we can descend the same trail or Mweka route. Dinner and overnight stay at the trail of your choice, B.L.D

Day 5. Descend to the gate then to the hotel

Breakfast, descend to the gate, we will take you to Planet Lodge. B.L

Day 6. Transfer to the airport (JRO)

After breakfast we will transfer you to the Kilimanjaro Internationbal Airport (JRO) to catch up your flight

 For those who think jet lag might affect them and /or prefer to arrive a day earlier, we recommend a day trip to the nearby Arusha national park for game drive and hiking for an extra of $180/person including additional in hotel in Arusha

Climb Price Includes

Arrival and departure Kilimanjaro Airport transfers. Also, fee bust shuttle transfer Nairobi-Arusha-Nairobi if flying to /from Nairobi

Accommodation in mountain huts or mountain tents with mattresses we use the highest quality expedition tents of Eureka and MountainHardware.

Meals as indicated (B=Breakfast, L=Lunch, D=Dinner)

All park fees, including mountain rescue fees, government taxes and all applicable fees and taxes.

Services of a professional leading guide who is medically trained, certified, licensed and English speaking.

Services of English –speaking assistant guide(s), a skilled cook, and enough numbers of porters for your luggage, food, and water, and a dining tent.

Dining tent on the trek.

Transport from your hotel to the mountain, and back to your hotel

Use of radios/phones to increase your safety.

Group average of 4-6 climbers, maximum of 10

Discount is available for group of 3 or more, booking together.

Items of a person nature such as passport, visa, traveler insurance, medical evacuation insurance (a 50$value)

Tips to guides and porters

International Airfare (unless explicitly stated)

Medical Equipment which can be rented well in advance for the following costs:

$250/group for hyperbaric chamber, $210/group for an emergency Oxygen cylinder and $140/group for a stretcher.

Porter toilet: if you do not want to use public toilets which some of climbers have been complaining about being dirty, then add 110/person (or $180/group) for a portable toilet. Kindly, let us know at the time you make a booking and not afterwards.

Please not these prices include a porter to carry the equipment.
